Outdoor Plastic Cap Model

Situation:
The customer had an idea for an outdoor plastic capping component that was believed could boost the aesthetic appeal and possibly sales for the entire package of outdoor components.

Project:
The PTC engaged in the following scope of work:

• Initial Meeting - met with the customer to learn more about the form, function, fit, etc. of the outdoor plastic cap concept
• 3D Solid Model - developed a 3D solid model within SolidWorks based on the initial meeting and the design requirements outlined
• Review of the Model - the 3D solid model was reviewed and finalized by the customer
• Transfer of Model - the 3D solid model was transferred to a tool shop where an injection mold was built for the two piece plastic cap

Project Outcome:
The customer received the injection mold at their facility and ran parts. The product is now offered as a standard component. Sales for the product line were projected to exceed previous years due to the addition of the outdoor cap component.
