Feasibility Studies

Feasibility Study of Plastic Dispenser

Situation:
The customer was a start-up company that did not have direct access to engineering resources that were necessary to evaluate the potential plastic dispenser product. We were contacted and asked to assist in determining the feasibility of the product in question based on our knowledge of plastic product design and development.

Project:
Mock-up dispenserAfter seeing a mock-up of the potential dispenser and discussing information such as the target cost, design criteria, volume of parts per year, etc., the PTC engaged in the following scope of work:

  • Organized all data to date - became the baseline for all decisions
  • Developed a concept of the dispenser based on the data
  • Selected potential plastic materials and processes for manufacturing the dispenser
  • Estimated tooling and prototyping costs for the dispenser
  • Reviewed all of the information gathered and determined the feasibility of the design
  • Provided a detailed written report and additional supporting information as applicable

Project Outcome:
The dispenser was determined feasible. The customer was able to continue on the path he had started, but with more confidence in his decision. The customer finalized the design and is having aluminum tooling built. The dispenser should be on the market Spring 2001.
